Programming With Pelvic Floor Awareness
The pelvic floor is not an isolated muscle group. It is part of a coordinated core system that responds to breathing, load, impact, posture, and cueing. In group exercise settings, every movement influences the pelvic floor, whether we intend it to or not.
This three-hour workshop gives instructors a clear understanding of pelvic floor anatomy, function, and common dysfunction patterns, including weakness, tightness, prolapse, and incontinence. Participants will explore how intra-abdominal pressure, breath holding, bracing language, and exercise selection can either support or overload this system.
Moving beyond theory, this session focuses on real programming decisions. You will learn how to assess exercises using practical criteria, modify movement patterns without reducing intensity, and design classes that are both strong and pelvic floor aware across land and aquatic environments.
The goal is to build confidence, clarity, and professional responsibility when delivering group exercise.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Explain the anatomy and function of the pelvic floor within the core system
• Describe the relationship between the diaphragm, abdominal wall, and pelvic floor
• Recognise signs of pelvic floor dysfunction and understand referral boundaries
• Identify how breathing and intra-abdominal pressure influence pelvic floor load
• Assess exercises using practical pelvic floor risk criteria
• Modify high-load movements while maintaining class quality
• Apply pelvic floor aware cueing in both land and aqua environments
• Design a pelvic floor safe workout structure

Testimonials
I’m not a fitness professional – just a woman with an increasing number of pelvic floor “red flags”. I knew I needed to do something about them, but had no idea where to start. I’m so grateful to you, Marietta, for so generously providing this course, which I have found absolutely fascinating. The content is so comprehensive, and your enthusiasm and relatability as a presenter are truly special.
Given my experiences as a client, I think this course should be mandatory for all Personal Trainers/Fitness Instructors. An invaluable resource.
