Perhaps it is the beautiful awareness that comes with age and more maturity that it finally dawned on me how it all worked out. I don’t think that I have my eyes completely open, but certainly a little wider than a few of years ago.
This month my admiration and respect goes to a presenter and author of a fantastic book titled The Interactive Instructor.
Kris Tynan is a New Zealand presenter with years of experience in the fitness industry. I was given this book recently in Auckland by another fantastic Kiwi, Broni McSweeny who said that I ‘must read this book’. She was absolutely right.

Stretching with the Gymstick is a great way to cool down and ease the muscles you have been working.
Place one ankle on the opposite knee and take the Gymstick behind the leg. Use the Gymstick to pull the knee in towards the chest.
I recently attended the Fitness NZ Roadshow in Palmy North (I’m not from there either so I won’t be upset if you don’t remember where that is!) and wanted to drop you a line to say THANKS for the awesome session you presented. We were all rapt and I think we all wished they had booked you in for a full day – well, maybe except the few young lads who looked like they wanted to sit in a corner with their eyes closed, fingers in ears, rocking back and forth! As a female 40-mumble years old with a rotten pregnancy/childbirth, and history of serious back and knee injuries I wonder why I hadn’t heard all that stuff before from other health professionals. Worse still, I wonder how many clients I could’ve potentially harmed in years of “suck that belly button right back to your spine” eek! 🙂
The timing was really great too. I had recently spoken to my local GP who asked me if I could set up some pre/post natal pelvic floor workshops as midwives/doctors etc don’t have time to do them anymore. Having agreed it was a good idea, but realising I didn’t know nearly enough, a couple of weeks before the roadshow I actually signed up for the Pelvic Floor First (and another) online course through the Australian Fitness Network. At that point in time I didn’t even know you were going to be speaking at the Roadshow – I had just signed up to go as I do every year. Mad right? All adds up to “meant to be” if you ask me.
So thanks again Marietta. I’m in the process now of trying to learn as much as I can, and working with the owner of chain of physio clinics, where I happen to run my PT business from, to see what packages we can put together. I am looking at a pregnancy care package, but also something for women my own age and older who had just accepted that when we laughed we’d pee! I would be really grateful if you were able to direct me to any other resources that may be of help? Particularly in the area of practical training to do with people. I know you’re a busy lady though so I won’t be offended if my email gets lost in the post!! I really just wanted to say thanks, I took your advice on immediately and have altered the way I train my clients. 🙂
