Fitness Australia
Congratulations Australia for being one of the leading countries in the world regarding a standard education for fitness, group exercise, aqua and personal training and also having a national registration body that provides support and structure to our young industry. I am in the fortunate position to be heading up the education for Gymstick International and in doing this role, I am often involved in working out the procedures in other countries on what needs to be achieved to ensure that the Gymstick education fits the criteria. The interesting bit is that often there is none – yep, NONE! In most countries there is either no official national recognised education body and/or there are individual schools offering a varied range of courses – some great and some very poor. BUT, not one country that I have dealt with has a nationally recognised registration body as large as Fitness Australia. The national body provides guidelines for our industry and battles on our behalf. For example, in the recent Operation Music, Fitness Australia represented us in Government and also offers a structured method to ensure that the fitness professionals maintain a level of professionalism. This is amazing. In fact, it is such a relief to be registered with Fitness Australia because everyone you work for will know that you maintain your qualifications and update knowledge on a regular basis. It is reassuring for fitness clubs as they have some sort of standard that they can offer to their members. Does it mean that everyone registered with Fitness Australia is an amazing trainer? No, but it certainly sets the bar – somewhere, which is saying something. Some countries have a national registration body, but not one has a fitness community that supports it as well as it is supported in Australia. So the next time, you might be tempted to whinge about registration fees, or the necessity to be registered, or having to get CEC’s, thank Fitness Australia for making each and everyone of us accountable for our professionalism. Without it, we will never be taken seriously by the medical community or by government and individually, we will have to continually to prove our ability to deliver safe and effective programs. Time to stop the complaining and appreciate what a supportive industry we have in this incredible country.

Testimonial of the month – Amanda See
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and knowledge at the “aqua revival” workshop in Sydney. It took that workshop for me to look at aqua in a whole different light, and inspire me to recreate how I teach. I applied your ideas in my next class with great feedback (except for one lady who was annoyed that we didnt use dumb bells). I look forward to teaching aqua and I’m excited to see how the class numbers and results will go.
