Gymstick tipThe point at which that bands are subject to most stress is the connection to the foot strap. Increase the life of your Gymstick bands by changing the ends regularly.

Not ok!A recent youtube video has been creating a lot of discussion throughout the social media world recently, relating to Crossfit and peeing while you work out! Click here to watch the video and read a blog response from the fabulous Michelle Wright of mishfit
Physio Assosciation response to Cross Fit ‘pee’ videoAs World Continence Week begins, the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) has heavily criticised a video produced by the Reebok CrossFit Games competition titled ‘Do you pee during workouts?’ The video producers interview women at CrossFit competitions about what they term ‘EIUL’ or exercised induced urinary leakage. The video shows women losing bladder control during competition, and sends the message that this is normal, and even something to be proud of.

Oh no, you didn’t…Pelvic floor awareness has been a passion for me. Travelling around the country and now New Zealand, I am constantly delighted and surprised by the interest in the topic, the lack of knowledge about this very important muscle and how it works within the body. It is more than just stopping yourself from peeing when you don’t want to, but also an important part of the core musculature and how this functions to support the internal organs, as well as providing support throughout the pelvis and lower back. Oh there is so much more to it than these two simplified sentences, but that is not what I am on about this month. This month I am going to have the BIGGEST go at a training program that is a worldwide phenomenon – Crossfit.
Hat’s off to…I have just finished a Fitness NZ tour where I delivered 2.5 hour presentations on the message from Pelvic Floor First about the extent of the problem, the challenges it presents individuals wanting to and currently exercising, and how the fitness industry can be part of the solution. I have personally witnessed the growth of interest in Australia which has been largely due to the amazing work of the Continence Foundation of Australia and many other wonderful professionals who have encouraged awareness in others. And…I want to thank the Fitness NZ team who took a risk – this was not what they have usually delivered on their tours each year, and it was a topic that was a ‘little out there’.

Testimonial of the month – Renate van Dordrecht
My seniors like the idea of working with the Gymstick and while a little challenging at first, enjoyed being able to grip the bar easier than just plain resistance bands or handles. As a personal training tool I have found the Gymstick to be very effective with a couple of clients who were rehabbing out of injury. One of my clients is still having issues (from broken toes to arthritis in joints and shoulder injuries) and the Gymstick has been great in providing resistance training without the client struggling to hold heavy dumbbells. I’ve also used the concept of three layers of movements from Gymstick Muscle with another group of seniors and have found it to be a great way to introduce progressions of exercises. I do find that I refer to the handbook you gave me often and I really l like the Facebook posts with a new exercise to try. Renate
