GetNZActive conference
The last weekend in November is always marked in my diary for a very special event that is close to my heart and it is the GetNZActive conference held in Auckland at the AUT. There are so many things that I love about this event – the enthusiasm, energy and openness to information by the attendees and the comradery of the presenters. This is event is truly one of open sharing and discussion and I find the New Zealanders are comfortable to approach presenters, which we absolutely love. As a presenter at the event, it makes it worthwhile when a delegate approaches me with feedback, questions and positive comments about the session. This is why I enjoy presenting. Trust me the glamour is not there when you know what it took to get to the stage, but it is the smiles, happy involvement and conversations that motivate me to 'do it again'. It doesn't take much for me to 'do it again' at GetNZActive. I absolutely love it.
I also completed the Vipr training and loved it. Ken Baldwin delivered the education and I thoroughly enjoyed learning new ideas and concepts and working with the Vipr, which by the way, made my rear rather sore. If you have the opportunity, look into the Vipr training. I heard a new phrase on the weekend from a fabulous personal trainer, Belinda Edmondston. She said 'new age trainers and old age trainers'. I liked that. Vipr training is for the new age trainers who look at body movement rather than specific muscle, single jointed actions. I would like to think that I am of the 'new age trainers'. Are you?
Article of the month - Stand Up For Your Health: The Emerging Science of Inactivity Physiology and Why Your Office Chair May Be Killing You by Dr Bill Sukala
The chair you're sitting in while reading this article could possibly be hazardous to your overall health!
Even if you do the recommended 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity at least five days per week, it's how you spend the remaining 23½ hours of the day that really matters. A new and emerging area of science, called 'inactivity physiology', exposes the hidden dangers associated with prolonged sitting – something all too common in modern society.
What is inactivity physiology? Research shows that vital enzymes in your legs' blood vessels, which are responsible for siphoning fat out of the blood, virtually shut off when you're in the seated position. The excess fat floating around your bloodstream can negatively alter your cholesterol levels, increase your risk of heart disease, and contribute to obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Testimonial of the month- Louisa Felsbourg
Scoliosis limited me to a point where my body would react badly. I found Yoga would help me but I could not use my shoulder properly.
I have been looking for that magic workout for many years now. Being in to fitness my whole life and now being a club owner. I wanted to give my members something special.
Then I met Marietta Mehanni. I had heard of how spectacular a presenter and Instructor she is and I was very excited to see what she had for me. It took me 10 minutes to decide that this is "THE ONE". I then did a workshop to get to know GymStick better. The next day I could move my shoulder PAIN FREE.
I could not wipe the smile on my face. My husband now uses it. I am now putting this on my timetable at Re-Creation Burwood East. This program is going to be HUGE.
In Good Health
