WETS

Jennifer Schembri Portelli, otherwise known as JSP is the owner, founder and creator of WETS aquatic instructor training system and the world famous aqua frame. Jenni has been involved in aquatic education for several decades and has been a mentor for many in the fitness industry, including myself. Winner of the life time achievement award, Jenni has used her extensive experience to create a unique tool, the aqua frame, to assist instructors to demonstrate aquatic movements on the pool deck. From a personal level, this teaching tool is something I never leave home without. Whenever I teach water exercise anywhere around the world, the aqua frame comes with me. This is one piece of equipment that no instructor or pool should be without.

Career Fitness

Career Fitness is a company directed by Aaron Whear. Aaron and I first worked together at the Melbourne City Baths. His role included overseeing the gym, personal trainers and managing the club. He now operates a very successful education enterprise which provides Certificate III and IV in Fitness, Group Exercise competencies and a wide range of workshops and seminars that caters for both the personal trainer and group fitness instructor. The level of the education is of such a high standard, that the graduates a known for their professional conduct, effectiveness and conscientiousness.

Australian Fitness Network

Having been a member for over 18 years, Australian Fitness Network have leaped from strength to strength.  Originally my subscription was only used to receive the quarterly magazine, which for several years was the only industry based magazine available. The magazine and website is now an excellent overview of all the fitness industry encompasses: latest research information and fitness trends, information on fitness related issues, tips for the personal trainer, group fitness and aqua instructor and a source of products available. Australian Fitness Network also organise a biannual fitness convention which have been yearly highlights on my schedule since 1995. With exceptional presenters, delivering a vast range of topics, these events are not to be missed by any fitness professional. I would recommend everyone to be a member of this organisation - a gold standard within the Australian fitness community.

Lululemon

Lululemon is an environmentally and politically conscious fitness apparel company. The Canadian company has been on Australian shores for only a short time but they have certainly created an impact on what fitness instructors choose to wear. Originally, Lululemon was aimed at providing yoga wear, but now it has branched out to include group fitness, running, tennis and dance wear for both men and women. Catering for all shapes and sizes, the excellent customer service are willing and cheerful without being overbearing.

FAB

I came across the FAB concept in 2007, and all I can say is it is brilliant. The FAB system is a collection of final choreography blocks on individual cards - no need for lengthy teaching progressions or tedious holding patterns.  Just choose your blocks, decide on your music and you're ready to take the most energetic, enjoyable and exciting freestyle aerobics classes ever!

The introductory pack comes with folder, 20 cards, each with 32 (or 16) beat choreography, contents and glossary.  Ten new cards and FABulous tips for freestylers will be launched every 2 months, building into a magnificent resource of 100 cards and invaluable ideas for the freestyle instructor.  In Pack 2 you will even receive a Personal Record Book to ensure your freestyle aerobics classes are always innovative and dynamic.  Important components of successful classes such as effective cueing, holding patterns, arm movements and substitutions are included in subsequent packs and a self evaluation checklist in Pack 5 means the FAB system is your complete reference for successful freestyle aerobics classes.
